If laying composite decking on top of soil that is not being raised, you can use Allur composite joists as your sub frame and follow the standard installation instructions. If laying composite decking on top of soil and there is a requirement to raise the deck off the soil; a timber sub frame will need to be installed. There are no set costs for how much composite decking costs to install. The size of the project and quality of materials will play a significant part in the overall cost.

Labour costs for a decking installer are typically around £150 to £200 per day. Depending on the size of the area you are installing your decking, it can take between 1 and 3 days to complete the installation. This is based on 10-30m2, however we would advise you obtain a price from a contractor to gain further clarity on costs.

The size and shape of the area along with other factors can impact the cost and length of the project. The material of your sub frame will also determine the total cost of your decking project. A timber subframe is cheaper and is sometimes necessary in certain designs, for example if you are installing steps or raising your deck off the floor. A timber sub frame however does require significantly more maintenance than a composite joist. Composite joists will not rot, warp or split and are the ideal subframe for your Allur decking. Despite the higher cost of the material, a composite joist sub frame will increase the longevity of your deck.

Timber decking is a lower cost material to purchase than composite decking is. Timber Decking is approx. £34.00 – £40.00 per m2, whereas Allur Composite Decking is approximately £60.00 per m2. Timber decking is cheaper than that of composite decking, however, it requires more intensive upkeep and more maintenance costs in the future. Therefore, composite decking is a better investment in the long run as there is no need to paint or stain your composite decking once it is laid.

Installing raised composite decking could not be easier. Timber joists are required to raise a composite decking as composite joists are not suitable to be stacked on top of one another. Our installation instructions include ways to install raised decking

Maintaining and cleaning your Allur decking couldn’t be easier! We recommend that you clean your Allur Decking with soapy water and a soft brush once or twice a year. Please refer to our Cleaning Advice sheet on Page 28-32 in the Installation Manual.

The quantity of joists that you need for your Allur installation is different dependent on how you are laying your decking. Joists are based on 300mm spacing’s max dependent on the design of your project.

We recommend that you use Allur Composite Joists to ensure that you get the longevity out of your Decking. Using WPC Joists is preferable when installing Decking onto a patio area. However, if you are installing a raised deck; you may require a timber frame upon installation.

Allur Composite Decking is low maintenance in comparison to Timber decking as no annual / bi-annual treatments are required. The lifespan of Allur decking is 25 years; whereas the average life of a Timber deck can be as little as 10 years. It is easy to install and is virtually maintenance free.
